Bespoke Upholstery and Soft Furnishings North London
Sit Tight Upholstery is a small, bespoke upholstery service based in North London run by me, Beth.
From treasured heirlooms to vintage finds, I believe that every piece of furniture has a unique story to tell.
Having completed my diploma with the Association of Master Upholsterers and Soft Furnishers (AMUSF), I specialise in modern and traditional upholstery techniques and offer a friendly, personalised service to help get your furniture looking as good as new.
So whether you're in need of a simple re-cover or an extra bit of TLC, get in touch to see how I can help give your beautiful furniture a new lease of life.
Every piece of furniture I see is different. With this in mind, I always try to give ‘estimates’ rather than ‘quotes’ as it can be very hard to tell what work is needed on a piece of furniture before I take the top layer of fabric off and have a good look underneath.
If a chair or other item of furniture is in good condition, it’s often possible to simply re-cover the top fabric. However, if structural work is required (for example: replacement webbing, springs or new padding) this will increase the overall cost of the project.
Where possible, I will try and provide you with a baseline estimate for a re-cover only and also an estimated figure that includes any anticipated structural work. I will also keep in touch with you throughout the process to discuss any additional work that is required.
Please note that cost estimates always exclude fabric. This is because the cost of fabric varies greatly depending on what the customer chooses.
For the same reasons as above, I try not to give set time frames in advance starting work on a piece of furniture. Once I have begun work, I’ll be able to give you a better idea of turn around and will keep you updated regarding the estimated completion of your upholstery.
If you would like to supply your own fabric, please let me know as soon as possible as this will need to be discussed and approved in advance of confirming the job.
I can only accept a client supplied fabric if I am confident that it complies with UK fire regulations (Furniture and Furnishings (Fire)(Safety) Regulations 1988) and that it is also durable enough for upholstery use.
Please note that a cutting fee of £5 per meter will apply, and that I cannot accept any responsibility for any issues that arise as a result of a client’s own fabric.
Traditional upholstery refers to upholstery methods typically used on antique furniture, where natural products such as coir fibre, hog’s hair and hessian are hand-stitched together to provide shape and support. It is a specialised technique that will ensure your furniture lasts for a lifetime while keeping its heritage intact. The materials used in traditional furniture upholstery are generally more expensive than modern day materials and the process does take longer to complete.
Modern upholstery is quicker and more cost effective than traditional upholstery, using foam, staples and other modern materials to give your furniture a new lease of life.
Local pick-up and delivery can be arranged at a cost of between £10 and £15 per journey, depending on your location and the size of the item.
